Good news for your classroom!

Dear teachers and parents

There’s something about a warm cup of coffee on a cold morning. The windows slightly misted up, the hum of school and home slowly coming to life. And in the back of your mind—planning, marking, sports schedules… and everything else that still needs to be done.

This season, we want to be that first cup of comfort for you. Something that helps you breathe again, stay focused, and take on the rest of the day with a bit more ease.

In this newsletter, we look at:
🎒 Antjie Krog’s brand-new poetry collection
🎒 Books you may have missed in the first term
🎒 The Department of Education says “yes” to Tippie
🎒 Our webinar recordings are ready to watch
🎒 Looking back at World Book Day
🎒 Berlut Books’ brand-new maths books available in July
🎒 What are “friendly books”? We introduce a new series

Spienekelientjies by Antjie Krog

Take a step into this reading delight!

Spienekelientjies by Antjie Krog brings beloved rhymes like “Ou Tannie Viljoen” and “Trippe trappe tone” back to life, along with new verses that quickly become part of your daily routine.

And something special: Antjie Krog reads some of the verses herself, so children can truly experience the rhythm and feel of language.

For parents:
• Builds language skills through rhythm and repetition
• Makes read-aloud time easy (even on busy days)
• Creates meaningful moments together

For teachers:
• Helps learners develop vocabulary and listening skills
• Recordings can be used for listening assessments
• Exposes learners to both classic and new poetry

Tippie gets a "yes" from the Department of Basic Education

We have big news that we simply have to share with you!

The new Foundation Phase catalogue (Grades 1–3) has officially been finalised, and Tippie is part of it!
This means that Tippie’s full package has now been selected as part of the Department of Basic Education’s recommended classroom materials for Afrikaans FAL and HL classrooms across South Africa.

For us, this is more than just a milestone; it is confirmation that Tippie is truly making a difference.

Our webinars are ready to be watched!

Our series of webinars focused on practical, classroom-ready reading materials in both Afrikaans and English. We celebrated World Book Day with Pick n Pay!

On this year’s World Book Day, we spent the day where books can change lives the most.

Together with Pick n Pay School Club and Tippie, we had the privilege of visiting IR Griffith Primary School and supporting young learners on their reading journey.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful deputy principal, Tasnim Maradmia, Pick n Pay School Club, and their sponsors.

Through this initiative, learners received:
- Tippie books, bags, and a ruler
- Vita24 drinks
- Chupa Chups Melody Pops lollipops
- Polyco bags, lunch boxes, and water bottles

When children receive support and encouragement, they don’t just learn to read, they begin to believe in themselves.

This is how real change starts: one child, one classroom, one school at a time.

New books on our Berlut Books List!

The Berlut Books Maths series for the Intermediate Phase will be launched this July and is fully aligned with the South African curriculum.

The series supports both teachers and parents, strengthens fundamental concepts, and helps address learning gaps, while also providing challenges for high-achieving learners.

What are "Friendly Books"?

When a child struggles with reading, they often feel frustrated, start avoiding it, and lose confidence.

That is exactly why we are introducing Friendly Books: to give parents a tool that makes reading more accessible and less stressful.

Our first book, Die Groot Storieboek Avontuur by Kristien Potgieter, is intentionally designed with:
- Dyslexia-friendly fonts
- More spacing and wider margins
- A reading experience that helps children focus without feeling overwhelmed

It’s not just about reading; it’s about how every child experiences reading.
